Snowflakes that Stay

...on your nose and eyelashes...
I know it's springtime, but just sing along with us!

This is Memorial Day, so let's be sure to remember all those who fought for our freedom!
Favorite Things will be taking a break during June for Junebug Days, but more will return in July!

I just realized that I have four orange projects on the needles.
Orange has me twinkle-eyed.

That's okay, because this can be a little teaser for what's coming right here on figknits just
one week from tomorrow!

Hint: June! Bug! Days!

More not-so-subtle hints to come.

Where's the Yarn?

I know! There's been too little yarn-lookings lately.
After our trip I tried to get caught up with my to do list and then I got sucked into a hole and it felt like I was  spinning in the middle of the room from too many things!

All better now. Whew!

I also feel like it's time to check back in on that list I made a few months ago.

1. Mirth pattterns--two in production right now. Finished and tested and ready for the tech editor--soon!
2. The freelance sweaters--one shelved (indefinitely) and one on hold until late summer.
3. Gloves--still waiting up in the workroom for me.
4. Mom's blanket--over halfway done and at present I'm only a couple of weeks behind schedule.
5. Jog? Not so much, but I have been working out and doing the walks with major hills. I can do 30 push ups and as many sit ups and am within 5 pounds of that magic number. I feel great!
6. Renew passport. Still gotta!
7. Instructional videos--not yet, because if I had done it, you'd be the first to know it.
8. Debt--paying on it regularly and vanquishing that old foe once again!!!!
9. Second raised bed--done this past weekend thanks to daughter's boyfriend and my trusty husband. We'll be planting this weekend!
10. Visit family down south--you know we got that one done, because that's about all I've been talking about the past two weeks. Right?

Now, let's look at some yarn makings.

Some of you are on Instagram, so you've already seen these pictures, but I just have to share.
I recently finished another Kathy's Cowl with some taupe cashmere from Ravenwood Cashmere
So soft. Here I am trying it on before blocking.
I got this little sweetie recently from Cephalopod, who just added the Nautilace to their line. This is baby camel down and silk in Bubble Eye. Orange!

And then when I saw that Quince & Co started offering dyed linen, their Sparrow yarn, I just could not resist getting a few skeins to design a little summer top. This is Little Fern. I have never knit with 100% linen before, and this is lovely organic fiber from Belgium, spun in Italy. Let's see what happens!

Oh, and I did block the cowl.

Though I did buy these little bits of yarn, I had two yarn crawls going on right here nearby last weekend and did not even go to a single yarn shop! I know--it's blasphemy. I just knew I needed more yarn about like a dandelion needs longer roots (and those of you who try to stay ahead of your dandelions like I do know what I mean) and we had housework to do! I cleared the rest of the grass off the plot for the raised bed and cut the grass and gave the Weedeater a run for its money instead of looking at more yarn. Good things.

In other news, we are working on some exciting updates at Mirth and at Figheadh and I can't wait to show you. Newish patterns are getting ready to go up for sale and the Figheadh site is finally getting an upgrade.
I'll let you know just as soon as there's anything to see.

Happy Tuesday!

Sunshine Award

Thanks so much to Donna for nominating me for a Sunshine Award.
I know this sounds corny, but this is right up my alley because I always try to keep this blog a happy place. We all have troubles, but there should be some spaces that are nearly trouble-free and, by golly, Figknits is it for me! I'm glad that translates into something like a Sunshine Award. Weeee!

Sunshine Award Rules
1. Thank the blogger who nominated you.
2. Answer the 10 questions on your favorite things.
3. Nominate 10 blogs to receive the Sunshine Award and let them know they've been nominated.

My Ten Favorites
1. Favorite animal: Puffins! They fly and swim!
2. Favorite number: 8 (my birthday numbers add up to 8 and lying on its side it is infinity)
3. Favorite non-alcoholic drink: tea--I know some thought it would be coffee, but though I have to have my coffee every day, I think tea is more interesting.
4. Facebook or Twitter: If I had my way it would be neither. I don't tweet and I am mostly on FB for my family.
5. My passion: Yarn!
6. Getting or giving: I try to be good at both. Life is balance.
7. Favorite Pattern: Anything blue and white, i.e. Blue Willow dishes. I have a knock-off of this...

8. Favorite day of the week: I'll have to agree with Donna and say Sunday. It's the one day of the week we let ourselves relax.
9. Favorite flower: Jasmine (used to be daisy, but I'm all about the fragrance now)
10: Favorite country: USA
I have only traveled to two other countries and feel I do not know enough about any other country to say differently. I would love to go to Scotland, England, Wales, and Ireland especially, so in the future this answer could certainly change. Here's to adventure!

The ten blogs I nominate for a Sunshine Award are

If you need to brighten your day, any of the above blogs will help you do just that!

Wild Geese that Fly...

This week's Monday favorites are from our vacation with family in Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina last week.
My grandson Preston's drawings (he's 10)

The view from my mom's farmhouse in the Appalachian Mountains

My sister's bunny dolls

The Hob Nob Farm Cafe in Boone, NC where App State U is located. Mom took us there for lunch while visiting her and my sister and brother-in-law.
I had the Crescent Moon Smoothie and a Garam Masala veggie dish with rice (yum!)
Fred had a jerk burger and mom had a brie, crab cake, and bacon sandwich with red lentil soup.
All the food is local and organic and the menu is very diversified--vegan, veg, carnivore, you name it.
My kind of place!

Grampy playing with the twins--too much fun!

Little hands

We had a great week driving across five states to see family.
I'll be posting more favorites from this trip in the next couple of weeks--too much fun to cram into one post!
